Making a return and print your photos!

The Blog is back! And I’m excited to share everything with you!

I’ve said it before, the Blog is back and the reason for it, mainly because I enjoy it, and know that I can help other creators with the experience I’ve acquired in my industry. It’s also an outlet for me, plus a way to improve my writing and thinking of more creative ways to share tips, recommendations and the overall message!

For the better part of the last five years I’ve focused solely on content creation for brands, and businesses; with the last year a more directed role with Marketing & Special Events with an Automotive dealer. So, I’ve got a lot of experience to share on everything about a camera for photo/video and business tips that I do wish I would have known when I started out! So if you got any questions, please send them here, email or message me up @sparkcreativeco on Instagram.

Something to share that will be of value to you as a content creator is print your work. If you’re a photographer, that goes without saying but so many of us do not. So, to kick off this Blog return, it will be a two part series on printing some of my work - with the plan to hang them up in our home.

I’ve got the selected photos that I’m planning to print, there’s three of them, each of them come with a unique story and also a take-away tip for you.

This is the original edited image - stay tuned for the poster print of three sisters in Canmore, Alberta

1) The first of Three Sister’s in Canmore, Alberta. I wanted a different perspective from the edited photo that I had, and I knew I took that photo in the set back in 2020. So, the importance of raw footage + presets with this photo is super key. I had the preset of the edited photo saved as ‘Policemans’s Creek’ (the location of the photo), so it was easy to head back find the RAW photo set, find the one I wanted to edit, apply the preset, do some minimal adjustments and voila it was ready for print!

A reminder to keep most all of your footage backed up, having these raw images + the preset made the whole process quicker, and will give me the end results I wanted - so stay tuned for the print when we go pick them up!

2) The second, Lower Manhattan shot from the NYC ferry, when I took the photo, to make it fit for the poster print - it clipped the photo. I took this photo back in 2015, and being JPG, it wasn’t really great to mess too much with. So, using the Generative AI tool in Photoshop Beta to fill out the photo to be resized and printed properly took me only a few minutes.

Your biggest takeaway here is being open to learning new skills, and platforms to help you improve the end product for you, or a client! I will admit that Photoshop is still an app I use sparingly, primarily a Lightroom user here. Photoshop Beta with the Generative AI tool though is another thing, I find just with that I’m using Photoshop more + improving my workflow and acquiring new skills on that platform.

Here’s the image which would have been clipped to fit a poster print. Before the photoshop AI

3) Our Meabear - this is a really tough one for me, even writing this I’ve put off and would rather not share it or just leave it out of the blog. I recently had to say goodbye to our dog, after 11 and 1/2 years - it was a short battle with an aggressive bout of Cancer. This will leave a big hole in my heart and soul for a while.

Printing and hanging those memories of those important to you is the biggest thing I want to share with you. In this digital age, we rarely print these memories, and with our phones/tablets around there’s less of an argument to print these. This is important though, and in the words of the iconic Joni Mitchell - ‘You don’t know what you got till it’s gone’.

Stay tuned for Part two as we journey out to visit my friends print shop and pick up these poster prints, along with a few custom threads!

Thank you for those who took the time to read (and hopefully enjoy) this blog write up - I’m keen to continue sharing my photo/video experience, so enjoy the journey with me! Say hello on Instagram @Sparkcreativeco!
